According to the World Health Organization, road traffic injuries are the 8th leading cause of death globally and the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-29 (Global status report on road safety, 2013)1. Road traffic injuries are therefore a major public health problem for the planet and one that has been addressed in the UN Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-20202.
In this context, three Technical Committees worked under Strategic Theme 3 Safety, namely: TC 3.1 National Road Safety Policies and Programs, TC 3.2 Design and Operations of Safer Road Infrastructure, and TC 3.3 Road Tunnel Operations.
