Since reforms in 1978 the economy in China has maintained a rapid yet steady growth rate. The average annual growth rate of GDP in China reached 9.7% and its percentage in the total world economy has increased from 1.8% in 1978 to 8.0% in 2009. As a result of high-speed development, particularly the accelerated industrialization and urbanization, there has been rapid development in transportation. This has included improvements in network management, coordinated development and enhanced capabilities for safety and security.
