Canada has been a member of PIARC since 1910, with a hiatus in membership between 1951 and 1973. The Canadian National Committee of PIARC was established in 1999, at the instigation of the federal Department of Transport. The acronym CNC under the Committee's logo was selected because it can be read in either English or French, Canada's two official languages.
