The World Road Association (PIARC) has confirmed its commitment to contribute to the implementation of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety as developed by the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration and stakeholders from around the world. The emphasis on road safety has created a need for new global guides on road safety. Some global guidance on road safety issues exists, but it's not comprehensive covering all elements of the road safety management system or easily accessible from one source. There is a vital need for the production of further guidance. Such an effort requires an understanding of the road safety needs of low, middle and high-income countries as well as a robust knowledge base.
