Advances in maintenance planning of roads by empirical models
Road Asset Management and road maintenance planning have been important topics for practitioners all over the world. The topic has raised some interest in academic circles as well and new methods for data collection and new algorithms for network-level maintenance optimisation have been introduced. However, the field is still mainly dependent on mechanistic or mechanistic-empirical engineering models packaged in software solutions such as HDM-4 although the amount and variety of collected data on the roads and road use has increased and advances in computational intelligence would allow better use of data and empirical models.
