The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and its core membership of 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, have been members of the World Road Association (PIARC) for many years. In 2011, AASHTO, in accordance with a memorandum of understanding with the Federal Highways Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation (FHWA), became a National Committee of the Association. AASHTO, as the National Committee, will host the PIARC Executive Committee meeting in Washington, DC in February 2013. John Horsley, Executive Director of AASHTO serves as the Chairman of the National Committee assisted by Anthony R. Kane, as Secretary.
