Cycling and pedestrian policies in cities and metropolitan areas worldwide

Many Metropolitan areas (MA) and cities around the world are developing strong policies to foster pedestrian and cycling policies, most of them with the aim to reduce private car traffic on their roads and streets, to decrease car accidents and energy consumption and to improve air quality. Most of these MA and cities are located in countries in which the car ownership rate is high and the private car has a high participation in the modal split.
