Improving Road Safety and Heavy Vehicle Operation on the South Eastern Freeway through engagement with industry stakeholders and the community

The South Eastern Freeway is a multi-lane highway that traverses through hilly terrain within the metropolitan area catering for a traffic volume of 47,800 Annual Average Daily Traffic (AADT), with approximately 8% of traffic being freight vehicles. A large portion of the freight vehicles that use this corridor are known as B-Doubles and can be 26-metres long, 2.5-metres wide, 4.3-metres high, and have a mass of 76tonnes. These vehicles are mixed in with all other road users, including vulnerable road users such as cyclists.
