Ferdinand de Lesseps contributed to human history by building the Suez Canal almost 150 years ago, in 1869 to be precise. Nowadays, Mr. de Lesseps is fondly remembered deep in the heart of France within a small village of the Berry province. Here in Guilly (Indre Department), the model farm he created in 1854 and honored at the 1855 Paris World's Fair is open to the public, just across from the village's fortified castle that was unfortunately destroyed during the 1950's.
