Roads crisscrossing their way through culture, nature and technical progress - Part 2 Europe's tree-lined avenues
the "avenues", or tree-lined roads that became widespread throughout Europe beginning in the 16th century, still present substantial benefits. An initial article (published in issue 348) focused on some of the underlying considerations. After discussing the current status of this historical infrastructure, the present article will set forth a number of recommendations for preserving this heritage, referring to the Council of Europe report entitled: Road infrastructures: Tree avenues in the landscape.
