Mali is a huge landlocked country. Its vast land area, covering 1,241,000 km², severely complicates the task of providing road infrastructure. Moreover, Mali features a variety of relief, from tall mountains in the North to grassy savanna in the central part and Southern Mali even contains a Sudanese climate zone.
