The role of ITS in accompanying new types of mobility

Somewhere between what is called the "first mode", defined as a private vehicle bonding a driver with an infrastructure manager, and the "second mode", consisting of public transit ridership bonding a user with a transport service operator, mobility "niches" have been developed in response to new demands. In so doing, a "third mode" has been constituted, corresponding to the well-informed, reactive "intermodal" traveler, who is not captive of either the first or second mode.
