Motivation - In recent years cars became more and more complex, with more and more technology in them. The last decade was dominated by the in-car networking. The number of controllers and bus systems has rapidly increased. Now the automotive industry can focus on interconnecting the cars on the road. This new technology holds not just benefits for the OEM1s but also for infrastructure- and road-operators as well as the European Union and the national authorities. Aiming to halve the number of fatalities in traffic accidents again in this decade, the EU relies on Vehicle-to-Environment communication as one milestone to reach this goal by 2020. Therefore the European and national institutions increase the support for development, standardization and deployment of the so called V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) -technologies.
